Diane Buxton, CPA
Hi, I'm Diane. I started my practice to help small business owners understand accounting and business, because I believe accounting doesn't need to be intimidating and full of jargon. My first degree was in English and creative writing, so I understand how creators think and how the business end can seem incomprehensible to right-brained minds. I'm here to support you with your bookkeeping and business finance so you can focus on doing what you love.
I have always loved the challenge, variety, and personality of small businesses -- they can be stressful yet extremely rewarding. One of the highlights of my accounting career was with a fun but distressed small manufacturing business that was trying to grow without enough funding. I was the person who had to take those phone calls every week from vendors asking when we were going to pay. I had to deal with my bosses spending money first and asking questions later, production running out of supplies because either we didn't think ahead or couldn't pay for larger quantities, or delaying payments and purchases because sales was down.
The skills I learned then are the same ones I use to this day to help other businesses manage their accounting and cash flow under tough conditions. To hold the ship together, I learned to manage really tight cash flow by frequently communicating with everyone involved and tracking all of it on a spreadsheet on a weekly basis. I helped keep the company afloat for two years, and during that time I learned a lot about staying calm in the face of turbulence and being a source of calm for other people while doing the work we had to do. I stayed in it both for the people I loved and for my own experience, and I found value and strength in persevering through difficult times.
I eventually decided to work for myself because I've always had an itch to do my own thing. Running a business is a constant learning experience unlike any other, and small business owners have a huge variety of work on their plates. I would love to support you in your business success.
